Your students will really enjoy these dances! To make
them more fun, on many of the dances the music speeds up causing the
dancers to dance faster. One of my favorites is choreographed to
“Trees of the Wild” by Nancy Schimmel and includes a hand-clapping
part that the children love.
These dances are well suited to the ability of children aged eight
through twelve. Through these dances the children are exposed to a
wide variety of Jewish music traditional and contemporary. For
example there is music by Rabbi David Shneyer & Rabbi Jack Gabriel.
Rabbi Burt Jacobson wrote an English version of Shalom Aleichem,
which is one of many songs on the CD sung by a children's choir.
There are also some old favorites like Heveinu Shalom Aleichem & Bim
Bom.
What a great way to learn with their
bodies!
These dances are also fun to do with families, pairing a child up
with his/her parent.
The DVD of Dances also comes with a CD
of the accompanying songs and a dance manual.
